Here in McElvaney we love to do three things: eat food, have fun, and learn. Those passions can be seen in the many traditions that we hold dear.

Annual Traditions

International Food Festival

Each year our Faculty in Residence (FiR), Mira Detcheva, hosts a food festival featuring the many cultural organizations from around campus. This festival has given many students the opportunity to learn about a variety of cultures while tasting their native cuisine.

Pinning Ceremony

At the end of the fall semester we officially welcome the new McResidents to the commons. Each new McResident is given a McElvaney pin before sharing a catered meal with their McElvaney family.

Food, Fun, and Tie-Dye Before the Spring semester comes to an end we enjoy a taste of summer fun. Part barbecue, part carnival, all fun.

Yearlong Traditions

Tuesday Treats

Every Tuesday night our FiR, Mira Detcheva, hosts a cookie night! Mira always has fresh cookies, fruit, and fun conversation. These cookie nights are always a welcomed study break for McResidents.

McMovie Night

On the last Sunday of each month the Commons Council hosts a movie night in one of the McElvaney classrooms. These movie nights are fun, themed, and spark a lot of great conversation between residents.

Socialite Club

Each semester our FiR, Mira Detcheva, takes students to a cultural event within the city of Dallas. These cultural events consist of attending a showing of The Nutcracker in the Fall and a musical in the Spring.
