Residential Community Director
The Residential Community Director (RCD) is a full time SMU employee that lives and works in McElvaney Commons. The RCD directly supervises the Resident Assistants within their building, collaborates with the Faculty-in-Residence, advises the Commons Council, and is responsible for life within the Residential Commons. RCDs are wonderful resources and can help guide and direct students through any situation or issue.
Maya grew up in Mesquite, Texas. She received her Bachelors of Science in Animal Science from Texas Tech University (Wreck'Em!) and her Masters of Education in Adult and Higher Education from the University of Oklahoma. In August 2016 she began working at Southern Methodist University and joined the McElvaney Commons family.
Maya enjoys reading, spending time with Misty, watching cartoons and anime (and will talk about them at length), and sexual health education. She is excited to introduce new students to McElvaney traditions and support student learning and programming.
residential community dog
The residential community dog (Misty) may not be a official employee, but she gives wet kisses like its her job. Misty is a 14 year old mini schnauzer and she can't wait to meet all the residents she's going to be living with next year.
Misty enjoys spending time in her human's office and jumping on unsuspecting residents. During finals she likes to walk around student study spaces and keep people company.
